AstroPay Explained
AstroPay originally operated in Latin American countries, such as Argentina, before expanding into Asia, Africa, and Europe, now holding its headquarters in London. It’s currently used by over six million users across more than 150 countries.
But how does AstroPay work? Well, by simply setting up an account, you can make deposits, even if you don’t have a bank account, with all subsequent transactions being completed in the most relevant currency to ensure you avoid unnecessary conversion fees. Because it’s primary function is as a prepaid card that needs topping up via bank transfer or cash or direct debit, there’s no chance of going overdrawn or spending funds you don’t have.
In recent years, AstroPay has gained in popularity thanks to its functional similarities to e-wallets, along with its inherent safety and reliability on offer as an online payment method. With expansion ambitions at the front of all plans, CEO Mikael Lijtenstein has aims of further developing the AstroPay brand. As such, the company has embarked on marketing through high visibility means, such as becoming the new main shirt sponsor for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Constantly in communication with its users, and expanding off the back of feedback and requests, we can only look forward to seeing where this very customer-centric brand goes next.
In recognition of their hard work, the now award-winning company was crowned as Best Payment Method in Africa at the SAGSE Awards 2022, as well as being shortlisted in the EGR B2B Awards in the Payment Solution category. Never resting on its successes, AstroPay has recently launched a new Visa debit card, initially in just a few select locations, with the ultimate goal of functioning as an international payment service.
